Social Media Global Education Connection Project

The mission of the Social Media Global Education Connection Project is “To provide leadership, guidance, facilitation and resources to students, educators, and administrators in educational organizations that will promote and enable competent usage of social media by the world’s citizens, workforces, educational institutions, and societies.”

The SMGEC project is sponsored by the Social Media Club, a non-profit trade association whose membership exceeds some 300 K members throughout 200 plus chapters spread across the globe. This project links the social media industry / professionals with the education industry / professionals to bring the best to both worlds.

Blackboard collaborate would be an ideal tool for coordinating activities spread around the world. This would include internal meetings, exchanges with higher education organizations and communication programs to a variety of education professionals.

Sounds like a good plan. We'll be tuning in on the tenth. Joe

I would be glad to do that some time. Although I have been involved in the SMCEDU area for a couple years, I have just recently taken on the leadership position and launching this project. The breadth is quite substantial, so currently I have been consumed with working on infrastructure. Anyone who follows me should have realized I have been very "silent" over the last month or so.

But alas, our weekly Twitter chats will start on Wed. Aug 10th at noon and 9PM with the hashtag #SMEDU. I will talk to Steve about timing, as I am somewhat consumed until then.

On the survey following the presentation by Kieran Egan today, I suggested that we have some presentations on the use of Social Media in Education. Why don't you offer to do a public meeting. I bet Steve would do a great job interviewing you. Many of us need your help.
