Users of Blackboard Collaborate
I plan to improve student achievement by providing online tutoring sessions as a learning resource that exploits the flexibility and power of technology, combining individualized instruction and Universal Design for Learning (UDL) principles, to reach my student learners while they are trying to learn, both in and out of class. By using Blackboard Collaborate, I will be able to interactively tutor students using the virtual whiteboard and student drawing and writing problems, solutions and…Continue

Consult 4 Kids currently assists 40% of after school programs in California. Our goal is to not stop there. With in the next 7 years, we hope to effect the lives of 70 million youth and 10 million adults through our services. Eventually we will be giving away our services for free through advertising and sponsors.
Since the area in which we assist is so vast, having on training room to work with individuals in each region on how to use the training more effectively would be a huge…Continue

Teaching offers a learning experience to language teachers whenever they use new teaching strategies that promote student participation. We are aware that those experiences vary to a great extent and it becomes essential to share those experiences with fellow teachers now and then. This proposal aims at enhancing such learning (among language teachers) apart from offering teacher training online in integrating technological tools in the language classroom. To begin with, an initial…Continue

Samuel Enoka Kalama Intermediate School is located on the slopes of Haleakala on the island of Maui, in the state of Hawaii. The opportunity to use a Blackboard Collaborate room for a year would impact our learning community in so many ways. Here is a sampling of what we would do:
-Connect and collaborate with learners from around the world. For starters, we would like to connect with Pacific island neighbors, including classrooms, teachers, scholars and institutions, an area…

As a College English instructor since 2004, I have taught English composition and research skills to a diverse group of people who come from a variety of different backgrounds and languages. While some of these students are fresh out of high school and eager to start college, many other students are adult workers who are returning to school after several or many years. While some of these students speak, read, and write English as their first and…Continue

For the past year the Westport Public Library in Connecticut has been working toward the creation of a Teen Digital Media Center based on some models viewed around the country, including the YouMedia "Youth-powered 21st Century Learning Center" at the Chicago Public Library.
Teens in our community generally have busy schedules after school due to homework and extra-curricular activities. There is also no shortage of technology in many homes. Recently we determined that our…

Sometimes I’ve used trial rooms although, in 2010,…Continue

I would like to use Blackboard Collaborate to virtually "shake hands across the globe." My students have made some contacts with a school in Switzerland and this fall both schools hope to also be making contact with a school in Mali. I believe students will be more compassionate human beings and better-equipped 21st century learners by making those connections, breaking down stereotypes and better understanding our common humanity. Kids love to share with each other, and my students have…Continue

The social and economic conditions of the inner cities are exacerbated by the high rate of incarceration that creates a permanent underclass, tears apart families, and leaves people living from emergency to emergency. And of course, there is a b-line straight from high school to the penitentiary, or the cemetery. We would use the Blackboard Collaborate room to create a virtual classroom to be shared by our Social Justice Academy students and the inmates from the Medium Security Federal…Continue

As I have been using videoconferencing with my students and school since 2007, I'm eager to take it to the next level, by having a classroom online, where we can find others, join webinars, and produce our own presentations. I teach Special Education, so the students I have really enjoy this feeling of being in a technologically advanced class, and the remediation of their self-esteem problems is much easier. They also benefit from a lot of the multi-modal presentations, and the visual…Continue

Everyday we turn on our televisons, or our computers, (and the dying breed who still read the newspaper!) and the stories are overwhelmingly negative. When media outlets perpetuate negative stories, they send out images and messages which are then mirrored in society.
My We Collaborate site will be a place to both brainstorm solutions to counter destructive mass media and balance the scales from negative to positive; and also be a place to share positive stories of hope, humor,…Continue

If it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a “global village” to help support severely disadvantaged and traumatized youth in Africa. What better way to expose them to a world of new ideas and possibilities than to connect them in live, collaborative relationships with international mentors and supporters from abroad, using Blackboard Collaborate.
The Strongest Oak Foundation (TSO) is an international, non-profit organization dedicated to helping extraordinary youth (aged 15…Continue
